He looked at the issues we face, explored why the Church may have failed to fully perceive and act upon the concerns and what we, as Christians, can do to to participate in the restoration of God’s good creation.

An Unanxious Presence- Sermon 7th July 2019

Luke 12:13-21

In this sermon our Minister, Peter, read the Parable of the Rich Fool and considered the possibility that his accumulation of material things was borne out of not merely greed but anxiety. He looked at the angst ridden state of the world today and spoke about how we, as Church, are called, in the words of the theologian Walter Brueggemann, to be an unanxious presence.

A Dark Night of the Soul- Sermon 30th June 2019

In this sermon Rev. Bluett considered the common human experience of the dark night of the soul, examining the story of one of the most celebrated writers on Christianity, CS Lewis, and his struggle with faith following a difficult bereavement. He looked at how we, as Christians, might understand and respond to such struggles.

The Cloud above the Tabernacle- Sermon 16th June 2019

Numbers 9:15-23

In this sermon Rev. Bluett looked at the position of the church in current society and considered the story told in Numbers of the Hebrews camping and setting out under the command of the Lord, following God’s pillar of cloud wherever it led them. He reflected on how we can understand this story today as a model for placing our trust in God.

Loving Your Enemies- Sermon 9th June 2019

Bluett considered the recent media coverage of the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings and reflected on various stories arising from that time in history as well as relating an uplifting story about the movements towards healing and reconciliation being made by individuals and groups in the Middle East.

In this sermon Rev. Bluett continued his exploration of the gospel according to John. He looked at the meaning of “the Word”, arguing that it can be understood as a part of the tradition of Jewish mysticism and not merely as a Greek concept.
