Readings:
This morning’s message was delivered by our Session Clerk, John Hodge. He spoke about the story of King Ahaz in the book of Isaiah and of Ahaz’s reluctance to change his planned allegiance with the Assyrians despite the counsel of the prophet. He then discussed the human tendency to wish to stick to our own plans, using excuses such as not wishing to test God by seeking signs, and how we might remain open to God’s continuing work, approaching scripture for fresh insights and recognising that the Holy Spirit speaks through scripture in different ways from generation to generation.
